Kansas blasts five-straight home runs vs. Minnesota, ties NCAA DI record

The 13 longest home runs in College World Series park history

Kansas etched its name in the NCAA history books in its 29-1 dismantling of Minnesota. The Jayhawks posted eight runs in the third inning, hitting five home runs in a row to tie the NCAA DI baseball record for most consecutive home runs.

Believe it or not, this is the fourth time in NCAA DI history that a team has hit five-straight home runs:

  • 2006: South Carolina vs. Georgia (second inning)
  • 1998: Eastern Illinois vs. Morehead State (fifth inning)
  • 1992: Centernary (LA) vs. SFA (first inning)

Ty Wisdom started a wild third inning with a triple to right field, and Michael Brooks drove him home with a single on the next pitch to put Kansas up 6-1. Then Sawyer Smith was hit by a pitch to put two runners on with Chase Diggins stepping up to the plate.

Chase Diggins got the party started, hitting his second homer of the season. Then Max Soliz Jr. and Brady Counsell crushed a couple over the left field wall. Brady Ballinger hit one deep that just snuck inside the foul pole for the fourth. Then Minnesota native Jackson Hauge smashed it about 20 rows deep in the left field stands for his second of the day.

Minnesota opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, but Kansas tacked on 29 unanswered runs in a massive road win at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota. The Jayhawks finished the day with seven home runs. Both Chase Diggins and Jackson Hauge had with two homers and seven RBI. Hauge also added a long double off the wall in right field for good measure.
